Zika virus<\/a> is transmitted primarily through the bite of an infected mosquito. It can also be passed
\nthrough sex from a person who has Zika virus infection to his or her partner. A pregnant woman can
\npass Zika virus to her fetus during pregnancy.<\/p>\n

Zika virus infection during pregnancy is still a threat<\/strong>\u00a0to mothers and babies. Babies born to mothers with Zika virus infection during pregnancy can have adverse outcomes, such as microcephaly and other severe brain and central nervous system defects. Not all Zika-related birth defects are noticeable at birth; *all infants born to mothers with lab evidence of Zika virus infection should be closely monitored after birth and throughout the first whole year of life.<\/p>\n
